Since retiring from a career in real estate, watercolorist Sandy Harrington, has become a force in the North Florida art scene. In April 2016 she was the featured artist for the Jacksonville Art Center Cooperative. In January of 2015 her watercolor was chosen for the cover of Flagler Magazine and she won First of Show, “Art from the Heart” in Mixed Media by the Flagler County Art League.
Sandy is a native Floridian, and she has painted as long as she can remember.
She loves the downtown Jacksonville Art Scene with all the wonderful galleries, musicians and vendors that bring out the best of the city.
Finding inspiration from her surroundings, she experiments with different mediums, watercolor, gouache, and acrylic washes. She is especially interested in how the colors interact.
WHY DO YOU THINK FLORIDA IS FAB?
I love Florida. I grew up playing in the water on Daytona Beach. I love a water view, walking in the morning on the beach...or just smelling the ocean. I am just not happy unless I am near water. I also love the fact that you can go outside almost all year.
FAVORITE FLORIDA SPOT
- One of my favorite places is the city of St Augustine with its rich history. I love to prowl around the beautiful waterfront areas, great restaurants and the old historical Spanish buildings and art galleries.
- Jacksonville’s historic Riverside area has the "Riverside Arts Market" under the bridge every weekend with art, pottery, organic produce, awesome food and strolling musicians...and only a block from the historic Cummer Museum.
FAVORITE FLORIDA PRODUCTS
My favorite product from Florida is Honeybell oranges, usually only available in January.
